  • Description: The UK Data Service (UKDS) is a national data service for the UK and supports use of social science data collections. Until 2013 it was called the Economic and Social Data Service (ESDS). It is the partner organisation of the UK Data Archive (UKDA) which archives data collections. Data from major large-scale government surveys, international macrodata, business microdata, qualitative studies and census surveys is available. In addition to this there is a wide selection of social science data gathered at a trans-national and European Union level as well as associated information on methodology and publications. The service provides access to over 6,000 computer-readable datasets suitable for research and teaching purposes covering a range of different disciplines. The majority of the datasets are fully anonymised, unless otherwise specified in the relevant online catalogue records, and are therefore not suitable for genealogical users or family historians. LSE staff and students should contact the Data Librarian or consult the Data Library pages for further advice on accessing and using data.
